Welcome
I am Dr. Karl Waked and welcome to my website. I have created this site to give you, my patients, a clear overview of what I do, which procedures I am specialised in, what my philosophy is, and how you can get in touch with me. But most importantly, my website will give you a first impression of who I am. After all, as a patient, you should feel comfortable with whatever choice you make, with the surgery you would like to have, performed by a surgeon that you can trust.
Who am I
I am Dr. Karl Waked, a certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon, born and raised in Ghent, Belgium. I completed my studies in Medicine at the University of Ghent with great honours (magna cum laude). Afterwards, I completed 3 years in General Surgery in Ghent and Bruges, where I focused on abdominal, vascular and cardiac surgery.
I was selected by Prof. Dr. Moustapha Hamdi for a residency in plastic surgery in the prestigious department of the University of Brussels. He gave me the opportunity to receive a personalised training and taught me the most important aspects within the field of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. I graduated as a plastic surgeon with the highest distinction (summa cum laude). My goal is to provide the best possible care for patients on a national and international level.
I completed additional fellowships in Marbella and Paris to receive more in-depth training in bodycontouring and breast reconstructive surgery.

Staying up to date
The field of plastic surgery is constantly evolving. For that reason, it is important to stay up to date on the latest techniques and innovations. This involves going to scientific meetings, presenting your latest research and publishing your clinical studies in international journals. Throughout the years, I have devoted a big part of my free time doing just that. It is my responsibility, as a plastic surgeon, to provide you with the best possible care. I strive to keep a critical eye on my own work and that of my colleagues, in order to keep improving and enhancing my surgical techniques. I have published over 20 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and have presented my latest research in meetings all over the world. You may find an overview of my scientific work under Publications and Presentations, which I will keep updated over time. I will give you the key messages of each article and how it has a positive impact on my practice and, eventually, on your surgical result.
My other intrests
I believe that a healthy mind requires a healthy body. I work out on a regular basis and try to squeeze that time in my busy agenda. Just as I commit to giving you the best possible treatment, I have to commit to myself to stay healthy. Sport is my form of meditation. In addition, I try to keep up to date on the latest financial and business news. Just out of interest.
Investing in yourself is important, but so is investing in other people. For that reason, I created an official non-profit organisation during my residency that connects all Belgian residents in plastic surgery.
As former president of the BRPS (Belgian Residents in Plastic Surgery), I aimed to improve the formation of the younger generation of plastic surgeons and connect them all over the country. I am happy that the subsequent presidents continue in that same philosophy. I am determined to apply the same mindset throughout my career as plastic surgeon.

As I have a profound intrest in business and technology as well, I founded a MedTech company in 2018, called Augmented Anatomy. Together with a team of doctors and technology experts, we aim to visualise your individual anatomy through Augmented Reality (AR). I believe that AR will be part of the future in many aspects of our society, as well as in medicine. So I am really excited about what the possibilities of our technology will provide to the medical and surgical world.
